The Family-Friendly Town Marktheidenfeld

Families are important to us, and we therefore do a lot to make sure that our motto - "Marktheidenfeld - where you feel at home" - is especially true for families! Be it childcare, learning opportunities for the whole family, a diversity of cultural, leisure and sport facilities or low-price building lots, we in Marktheidenfeld care about our families.

First of all, with us there is a kindergarten place for every child, from six-month infants to pre-school age! In the town of Marktheidenfeld, you have the choice of five municipal child daycare centres, a forest kindergarten, an integrative kindergarten and a privately managed child daycare centre. For crèche children between 6 months and 2 years, all requirements are fulfilled by the daycare centres in the Edith-Stein-Strasse and Baumhofstrasse. In the holiday month of August, at least one kindergarten is open, guaranteeing daycare during this period as well. In addition, there is a privately run children´s hotel for children up to 10 years old, staffed round-the-clock, seven days a week. For primary school children, afternoon supervision in the school is guaranteed. It is carried out by the AWO.  

At the start of school year 2013/2014, an all-day stream was set up at this primary school, beginning with class one. This is the first school in the administrative district to provide a facility of this kind, for it is important for us in Marktheidenfeld that parents can harmonise family and professional life and that the children receive optimum care an advancement.

Schools of almost every kind are available in the town. In detail, these are, besides middle school, technical high school and grammar school, an advanced vocational school (FOS/BOS), a training centre for healthcare professions and special needs schools. In the municipal Music Institute, low-cost teaching of musical instruments is provided. Evening classes offer a highly diverse educational programme in which people of all ages can obtain additional and advanced training; it is an important contact and communication location, as is the Municipal Library. The Franck House is our cultural centre. This striking smalt-blue townhouse hosts not only temporary exhibitions by regional artists, but also, alternating yearly, the exhibition for the Art Prize and the Book Illustration Prize "Der Meefisch" ["The Fish from the Main"].

The town´s location by the Main and the Spessart constitutes an outstanding leisure asset for all generations. Forest, Main or open fields can be reached on foot in only a few minutes. Paths for wandering or cycling as well as Nordic Walking trails are at the front door, as the 5* Main Cycle Route. With the Wonnemar leisure and adventure pool landscape, it has a sport and thermal bath that provides bathing fun and wellness for the whole family. The Movie Kino with its four projection halls, the small-scale theatres, richly varied gastronomy, a lively town centre with a wide range of retail traders and numerous owner-manager specialist shops, augmented by supermarkets and discount stores, meets practically every wish. A cross-generation play area directly on the Main is a favorite meeting point for all ages: games, fitness or simply a chat - all this is possible here.
A wide range of other sporting activities are available in the town, and a wide selection of sports can be practised  in the town´s sport clubs.
Youth work is also a high priority for the town: there is therefore a wide choice of events in the Youth Centre, with an additional programme for the summer holidays. The town is also a convinced supporter of the youth work of the churches and clubs through the municipal youth work programme.

Marktheidenfeld takes the increasing age of society seriously: seniors exert influence actively on the town - in the Seniors´ Advisory Committee, for example, or on the Senior Internet. The voluntary work exchange gives access to services such as help with shopping, sick visits, or with correspondence. The town supports senior-friendly housing, enabling older people to continue living independently in their own homes as long as possible. Three retirement homes provide the appropriate care for the elderly.
With the "Stadtbus" [City Bus], not only seniors, but also all members of the family, are under way, comfortably and at low cost, even without a car!

Medical care in the immediate vicinity is provided by an acute hospital with an accident and emergency department. A geriatric centre and a dental care practice for seniors complement these facilities; there is also a local dialysis centre. Numerous doctors are established as general practitioners ans specialists in Marktheidenfeld. Four pharmacists in the town maintain the availability of medicines.

Also family-friendly are our new residential areas and the low-cost municipal building plots.

Our appealing location, the high number of employment positions (around 9,400), excellent care and educational facilities, very good shopping, and the attractive cultural programmes and leisure opportunities are incentives to settle in Marktheidenfeld.
